From October 13 to October 25, the Viennale 2006 hosted the documentary Anger Me<\/span><\/strong> produced by SEGNALE DIGITALE<\/span><\/strong> and A Few Step Productions<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Directed by Elio Gelmini<\/span><\/strong>, Italian-Canadian director, its theme is independent film director Kenneth Anger<\/span><\/strong> (1930), his extraordinary film making and his books. The documentary was shown October 23 at Viennale Centrale Urania theatre<\/span><\/strong> and October 24 at Stadkino, bringing together a great number of experts, film buffs, fans and filmmakers, once again proving that Anger\u2019s work is still vivid and up to date.<\/p>\n

Kenneth Anger<\/span><\/strong> himself was at the screening introducing the documentary and later answering many questions from the public. The evening of October 24, always at Centrale, Kenneth Anger entertained many fans and movie buffs with a debate on his filmmaking and his life with Tav Falco, American artist and Panthers Burns singer, and director Elio Gelmini<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

That same evening, a good two hours of retrospective work was shown, including some of Anger\u2019s films in original version on 35mm film, wonderfully recovered thanks to the incredible work of Ross Lipman of Los Angeles UCLA<\/span><\/strong>. SEGNALE DIGITALE<\/span><\/strong> and A Few Step Productions<\/span><\/strong> want to publicly thank director Hans Hurch and the festival staff for the incredible work behind the organization of the Viennale and the great passion for filmmaking that shines through the energy they put in their work.<\/p>\n

Kenneth Anger ist einer der bedeutendsten Filmemacher des amerikanischen und europ\u00e4ischen Undergrounds. Seine Werke wie \u201eFireworks\u201c, \u201eScorpio Rising\u201c oder \u201eKustom Kar Kommandos\u201c wurden zu den Leitbildern der Kunstszene der Siebziger und Achtziger. Elio Gelmini \u2013 bislang vor allem mit kurzen Dokumentarfilmen an die \u00d6ffentlichkeit getreten \u2013 nahm sich seiner eigenen Faszination f\u00fcr Anger an und portr\u00e4tierte ihn in seiner ersten Langdokumentation.Dabei ist der Star des Werkes der bein

Knappe siebzig Minuten lang entbl\u00e4ttert der mittlerweile 79 Jahre alte Filmemacher \u2013 der von Jonas Mekas im Intro als Poet bezeichnet wird \u2013 die Hintergr\u00fcnde seines Schaffens und seiner Ausbildung. Die Einfl\u00fcsse eines Alistair Crowley werden ebenso aufgearbeitet wie jene von Jean Cocteau. Doch hier liegt die Schw\u00e4che von \u201eAnger Me\u201c. Elio Gelmini verliert sich in den Wortkaskaden, die sein Forschungsobjekt auf ihn losl\u00e4sst. Die Illustrationen der Erz\u00e4hlungen sind der Reiz, ebenso wie das jugendliche Auftreten von Anger, doch bleibt der Film mehr eine sch\u00f6n illustrierte Huldigung, denn eine Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk von Kenneth Anger.<\/p>\n

Anger Me \u00fcber den omnipr\u00e4senten Star der heurigen Viennale, Kenneth Anger , brandredete, sind Rechte eine gigantische Geldmaschine geworden, so gro\u00df, dass Bill Gates ganze Archive aufkaufte, um zu kassieren, wenn jemand nur ein Foto daraus verwenden will. Wenn Jonas Mekas also im Film von Unsch\u00e4rfe umgeben ist, ist das weder ein b\u00f6ser Schnitzer des Kameramanns noch soll Mekas verkl\u00e4rt werden, sondern es kommt so einfach billiger. Unabh\u00e4ngig dessen zeigt Gelmini nur eine Seite von Kenneth Anger , n\u00e4mlich die des K\u00fcnstlers, nicht aber die des Menschen, der hinter dem K\u00fcnstler steht. Der K\u00fcnstler scheint jedenfalls Pionier von allem gewesen zu sein; Gerade dass er nicht f\u00fcr sich reklamiert, den Film erfunden zu haben. Im Film behauptet Anger samt rotem Pullover mit Aufschrift ANGER \u00fcbrigens auch, 1930 geboren zu sein, obwohl sich \u00fcberall das Jahr 1927 findet. Wie viele Wahrheiten sich sonst wohl schon hinter seinen glamour\u00f6sen Ausf\u00fchrungen verloren haben?<\/p>\n
